Burton’s Frankenweenie gets a date!

Fans of early Tim Burton will fondly remember his 30-minute live-action black and white short film called Frankenweenie. The wonderful short stitched together a sweet “boy-and-his-dog” story with Frankenstein underpinnings. Now, Disney and Burton look to bring the idea to a feature film on March 9th, 2012.

John August is writing the screenplay and it looks to be a stop-motion animated film in 3D (naturally) with Burton as a producer. No word on anything else, but as a fan of that short from 1984 (shown on Pinocchio re-release prints) and his Vincent, I’ll be eager to see if he can recapture the charm of those shorts.
