Bryan Singer begins looking for his Giant Killer

It seemed like a case of deja vu when Warner Bros. kept Bryan Singer from directing another X-men film to work on the script for Jack the Giant Killer. Singer did stay on as producer, and Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn filled the vacated directors chair for X-Men: First Class. Now, several months later, Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer has been green-lit, and is now looking for it’s lead actor.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Warner Bros. has given green-lit the film, and has begun casting. Singer is looking into casting a young actor, and that many are circling the project. Among those seem to be Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), who has been linked to the role for sometime, and was rumored to appear in X-Men: First Class for a while. There’s also the possibility that some of the younger cast members from X-Men: First Class could pop-up in this film (here), but there’s no word on that just yet.

The film was written by Christopher McQuarrie, and will be a dark re-telling of the classic Jack and The Bean Stalk tale. McQuarrie also wrote the script for Twentieth Century Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2, which seems to be one of the reasons Darren Aronofsky came on board. McQuarrie seems to have once again nailed the script as his take is apparently was got WB and Legendary Pictures to green-light the project. Production is set to begin next Spring for a release in 2012.
