Black Widow spin-off being discussed
Marvel is already thinking ahead to their post-The Avengers line-up. Writers have been hired for feature adaptations of Dr. Strange and Iron Fist, with talks of a spin-off for S.H.I.E.L.D. being discussed. Now, talks of a Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson) spin-off have been confirmed.
While at a press conference for the Blu-ray/DVD release on Iron Man 2 next Tuesday, President of Production at Marvel Studios, Kevin Fiege, confirmed talks about a Black Widow spin-off (via Coming Soon). “We’ve already started discussions with Scarlett about the idea of a solo movie and have begun putting together concepts,” he said. Of course, the film is a long way off right now. Work on the film will begin after The Avengers, which doesn’t start production until this next February.
A spin-off was first hinted at back in late April, before the release of Iron Man 2. It’s too early to tell where the story would go, but it’s possible it could tie into a S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off. Until then, you can see Scarlett Johansson return as Black Widow in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers opening the summer of 2012.
