Bell may swim with the Whales
Kristen Bell circles around the production of Whales as she’s reported to be in the middle of negotiations to be part of the film. If so, she’ll join leads Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski in the feature helmed by He’s Just Not That Into You director Ken Kwapis.
Set in Cold War-era 1988, “Whales” tells the true story of a small-town news reporter (Krasinski) and a Greenpeace volunteer (Barrymore) who enlist the help of rival superpowers to save three majestic gray whales trapped under the ice of the Arctic Circle. Bell will play a reporter from Los Angeles aiming for the big time who thinks her greatest assets are her looks (THR).
Kwapis is directing based off the novel Freeing the Whales: How the Media Created the World’s Greatest Non-Event, written by Tom Rose. The Universal Pictures/Working Title Films production begins principal photography possibly by the end of this year. You can see Bell in the romantic comedy When In Rome, out on DVD right now, or you can wait until she graces the big screen once more in the Andy Fickman comedy You Again this September 24th.
