Bay reveals Chicago shoots for Transformers 3

This post does contain minor SPOILERS for the climax of Transformers 3.

If you live in Chicago, then you may have heard a few explosions over the coming from Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive over the past week. There’s no need to be alarmed as it was only Micheal Bay shooting his latest film, Transformers 3. While Bay is keeping the story a secret, he did reveal to Chicago’s Sun Times when those particular scenes will show up.

The scene is set to take place “at the very end of the movie and the city is under alien attack, so it’s very critical and important to the film’s climax. Something very bad has happened to America — and this is at the very end of the movie.” Also in the last film, there was a huge battle that involved many troops from NEST, but “heroes in this movie have very few people coming to help them this time.” The scene shot yesterday involved ”a number of base jumpers who are part of Josh Duhamel’s unit.” The scene will also be “much more intimate in terms of what’s happening.”

Bay’s intention is to surpass The Dark Knight in terms of action. Ironically, Bay shot a few scenes on the very street that Nolan used for The Dark Knight. Filming is estimated to bring in over $20 million to the local economy. Bay will be shooting the sequel in 3-D. Shia LeBeouf, Tyrese Gibson, and Josh Duhamel will be returning. They will be joined by newcomers Patrick Dempsey, Francis McDormand, John Malkovich, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Filming is set to continue until the end of August, then head to Detroit.

Transformers 3 will open in 2-D and 3-D on July 1. 2011.
