Barry Manilow Fans, You’ve Finally Made It!

Variety is reporting that development is underway on a new romantic comedy that will exploit the song catalogue of iconic singer/songwriter Barry Manilow. But that’s not the interesting part.

The movie is going to be produced by Playtone, helmed by Tom Hanks and partner Gary Goetzman, in addition to Single Cell. Single Cell is run by Sandy Stern and partner Michael Stipe. Yes, THAT Michael Stipe.

Stern hooked Manilow with the idea making a romantic comedy with dissecting story lines involving Manilow fans arriving in Las Vegas for Manilow headlining the lush Mandalay Bay.

The dissecting story lines part reminds me of Detroit Rock City, but a lot less metal, a lot more glam.
