Avatar’s Blu-ray and DVD officially announced
Today, Fox Home Video officially announced that on Earth Day, April 22nd (a Thursday) you can own the megablockbuster on Blu-ray and DVD. In order to maximize the potential for the best video and audio presentation, the discs (Blu-ray and DVD) will be devoid of extras. The Blu-ray will also include a separate DVD, like most studios have been doing as of late.
Please note, that in November of this year, an “Ultimate Edition” will be released on both Blu-ray and DVD with a slew of extras. Also, the much-talked about 3D Blu-ray won’t be here until next year sometime, so don’t hold out because it’s a ways away.
“We wanted to do something really special and reach for the best presentation of any film in the history of the format,” says Jon Landau, the film’s producer. “Everything that is put on a disc takes up room – the menus, the extras, the trailers and studio promotions – and we got rid of all of that so we could give this movie the best picture and sound possible.”
No cover art yet.

I’ll end up buying the barebones edition, I’m impatient. Collider has the cover art for the release.
