Avatar topples all for 4th Week

Just around a month ago the Avatar craze begun with hoards of people flocking to their local movie theaters and or IMAX theaters just to gaze at the visually orgasmic feature directed by James Cameron. People still apparently want more and more with Avatar already on it’s fourth week and still in the top slot with $48.5 Million for the weekend. With the film already ranked in at number 7 of the top domestic grosses of all time and number 2 on the top grosses worldwide, there’s no stopping this sucker.

Then we’ll tip-toe over to the newly released films, the first of them being the post-apocalyptic vampire tale Daybreakers which made $15 Million. That’s pretty good for the Ethan Hawke and Williem DaFoe starring feature with a $20 Million dollar budget. There is also the Amy Adams and Matthew Goode co-starring chick flick Leap Year managed to make decent bank with a round up of $9.1 Million domestically. If you want to go into how the other films are ranking in comparison to their budget a lot of them are doing pretty great, some like Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Jason Reitman’s buzz-worthy feature Up in the Air a couple of many that are booming during this winter season. 1. Man, Daybreakers was some weak tea.

  2. I absolutely loved DAYBREAKERS. It brought the balls back to the vampire genre after they were cut off by Stephanie Meyers.

  3. I second Brad, and concur with Serena’s review. Fun, interesting vamp film. That’s a decent B.O. intake too.

All the ‘Avatards’ are making a good film, one of cinema’s all-time box office kings. ‘Avatards’ you say? They are people so in love with the film and the world of the Nevis that they wish to committ suicide to leave this world, for which they lost faith in. Wow.

  4. Damn Jon, harsh. but i like. Holmes was freakin fun!
Glad to see its holding its own. and i still need to see
Daybreakers, on which i was sold the moment I saw Sam Neil in the trailer.

  5. Oh, remember I loved “Avatar”. I just learned of these new hardcore Avatar fans called Avatards. Interesting, no?

    Brad Reiter Reply:

There is a messege board devoted to wanting to join this lifestyle. They actually have a dictionary for the language that was made up for the movie. I haven’t seen the movie, and it’s fans like these that make me glad that I haven’t seen it yet. People take this stuff too seriously. Like a movie, be a fanatic about it, but to want to kill yourself to join then, or divorce your husband because he isn’t Edward from TWILIGHT (that happened), that’s taking this stuff too seriously.

  6. True, but outside this extreme passionate fans, I really enjoyed the culture Cameron built for the Ne’vi and their world a lot. Oh well, silly Kool-Aid drinkers! :)

  7. I dug Daybreakers, it gave me a far better time in the movies for a Jan release than expected, even though the vampire subject matter is used to high heaven at this point.
