Avatar starts to make its Box Office mark

Scene-from-Avatar-2009-001We all were pretty curious when it came to the fate of James Cameron’s latest creation in Avatar. Well, the report came in for the Friday estimates from Box Office Mojo, and his IMAX 3D visual piece managed to take in about $27 Million on it’s opening day. When it comes to the midnight showings, it took about $3 Million which is good for a film of it’s hype caliber. Avatar now is quickly jumping up the ranks to possibly become one of the best December opening weekend grosses of all time. Those that are already on the list include I Am Legend, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

It certainly does help the Sam Worthington starring film that it’s garnering tons of positive reviews from every which way. Even before it opened, it already has been catching the attention of awards shows as it already has the Golden Globes nominating it for Best Picture, Director, Score and Original Song. At this point it would not be a surprise to see it crop up among the ten that get chosen to be nominated at the Academy Awards once they announce it January of next year.
