Avatar Blu-ray sells break first day record

20th Century Fox is claiming that the first day sells of Avatar‘s Blu-ray has broken The Dark Knight‘s first day sells, by almost doubling it. On December 8th, 2009, The Dark Knight sold 600,000 Blu-rays on its first day, while Avatar sold 1.5 million yesterday.

Even with the announcement of a November 2010 box set that will include three versions of the film and a slew of supplemental material, not to mention, no 3D version of it yet, audiences still gobbled up James Cameron’s billion dollar hit.

  1. I am waiting till november. Love me some extras

  2. Have to take into consideration that blue ray is more prevalent now then it was back then.

  3. One retailer claimed that they were unprepared for “The Dark Knight”, as sells and the up-coming holiday season put the Blu-ray is such high demand that they were stuck with waiting for WB to ship more units and meeting customer demand.

For “Avatar”, they over-prepared. If anything, Fox shipped out possibly 2 million units, if not more, so this was not unexpected.

  4. I’ll go stand in the corner now.
