Aronofsky still wants to remake Robocop
While many projects were delayed under the financial problems at MGM, Darren Aronofsky’s Robocop remake was the only casualty (here). However, Aronofsky hasn’t given up hope, and still wants to make the film. Speaking with The Playlist, Aronofsky is optimistic that a remake is still possible. “Well, ‘RoboCop’ may still happen one day, who knows? It’s MGM and hopefully they’ll clear their stuff up and I’m still interested,” he said.
Darren Aronofsky has proven to many that he’s a wonderful filmmaker, and the main reason some interested in The Wolverine. But many doubt Aronofsky could re-capture what made Paul Verhoeven’s original so great. Aronofsky does claim that David Self (The Road to Perdition, The Wolfman remake) did write a great script for the film. “David Self wrote a great script, but the company went under so…,” he said. However, we’ve recently heard that a new TV series for Robocop is in the works (here), and MGM could possibly be heading in that direction instead.

Robocop is one film I don’t want to see remade, even with a capable director like Aronofsky. The film is perfect, it doesn’t need a new one.
