Aronofsky still on Robocop

Darren Aronofsky continues to stay latched onto the remake of the popular 1987 science fiction/action feature Robocop, so says screenwriter David Self to the folks at ShockTillYouDrop. He was able to spill quite a lot of information in regards to where exactly the project is at the moment, who’s attached to it and just what the hell is MGM going to do.:

“I’m still involved with it and Darren Aronofsky’s still involved with it,” says Self. “He’s making another movie right now (Black Swan), but we’re waiting for MGM, to sort things out since they’re a large corporation and it’s a situation where we have to be practical. We’re waiting to continue with them, we hope that that happens soon and we can get back to it soon.”

“It’s definitely not a sequel. It’s an origin story, it’s an origin to the original Robocop. So, it’s basically a ‘reboot’.”

At the moment, Self is basically saying that Robocop is stuck in development until MGM makes the next move. Like stated, Aronofsky is in the middle of filming his thriller Black Swan which stars Natalie Portman as a ballet dancer that has a very shaky relationship with a rival that could or could not exist at all.
