Aronofsky speaks on The Wolverine
Color many people shocked when Darren Aronofsky was tapped to direct a sequel to the widely panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine. With his Black Swan, getting Oscar attention, much like his Wrestler, it’s even more odd he would tackle a superhero film as part of a studio deal (here).
He’s never let great film-making down and finally he told Coming Soon a few things about The Wolverine.
“There’s all the samurai elements [ in the script] are really exciting, I’m a big fan of Japanese movies, we’re going to try to have a good time. Chris McQuarrie wrote a great screenplay. We’re trying to get it into a slightly better place but he’s working on it, and I think it’ll be easy to fix. Chris is an amazing writer and I’m very lucky to have him as a collaborator.”
Does that settle you all down? Just a bit? He was mum on if any connections to the Gavin Hood misfire would exist. Let’s just hope Fox doesn’t ruin his vision, which to me, might sound like The Wrestler meets X-Men. Interesting, luckily, the best performance of Hugh Jackman’s career was with Aronofsky in The Fountain.
