Alex Kurtzman to direct Welcome To People

Steven Spielberg seems to like working with writer Alex Kurtzman. He has worked with him on Michael Bay’s Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and just recently hired him along with Robert Orci to producer Locke and Key TV series. Now, Spielberg will helping Kurtzman with his first directing job.

Vulture reports that Spielberg and Dreamworks has given Kurtzman the job of directing Welcome To People, an “ intimate dramatic script“. The film tells the story of a man who is flying home to attend a funeral, and learns he must deliver money to a sister he never knew existed. The man decides to keep the money to fix his own problems, but eventually meets his unknown sister and her son.

The script has existed for about six years, and offered it after he and fellow writer Robert Orci have been offered many big-budget films. Kurtzman didn’t want to only be associated with action films, and offered to direct the film himself. There’s no word on casting just yet.
