Akira goes in the Hughes Bros hands

Albert and Allen Hughes definitely got their hands full as Warner Bros. Pictures throws them in the director’s chair to helm the live action version of Akira. The feature has been stuck in development for awhile, previously slated to come out in 2010. Warner Bros. must have got a really good look at their latest film, The Book of Eli, enough to hand them this Japanese manga turned animated feature that was released back in 1988. Akira is about the leader of a biker gang who tries to save his kidnapped pal from a powerful supernatural experiment (Vulture).

The film in question is currently being penned by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who both co-wrote the Iron Man and Cowboys & Aliens script. Warner Bros. is planning on making the Akira live action adaptation two movies which are already set to come out in 2011.

  1. PLEASE let this project die. I’ve had enough with Hollywood raping classic anime/manga titles.
