A Simpsons movie sequel could be a possibility
The Simpsons has become the longest running sitcom on television since its debut in 1989. Naturally, a feature length movie was created and released in 2007, and was a big hit at the box-office earning over $527 million. But what’s unusual is that a sequel has never been green-lit despite the film’s success. However, that doesn’t mean an idea for the film hasn’t been thought up.
Speaking with Coming Soon, executive producer of The Simpsons James L. Brooks revealed that a sequel is a possibility. “We’re open to it,” Broooks responded when asked about a sequel. Making the first film was a big task for Brooks and others attached. “It was much harder than we anticipated. It took us a year to try and get to the point because we’re all so scared of ‘What are we going to do to the Simpsons’ and ‘What if the movie is no good?’ We were all so scared about that and I thought it took us a solid year of looking at each other to get to the point where we can get to the point where we don’t give a sh*t,” Brooks said. However, the success of The Simpsons Movie would help their confidence in the development of a sequel.
Brooks also revealed that an idea for the sequel is already thought up, but would another movie would only come after the show. “It was a huge success and we’re very open to it and we have a beginning notion if we want to do it, but the series always comes first with us. The series is always primary to us,” he said. So, it’s any-one’s guess if we ever get to see Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa on the big screen again. Although, there’s always a possibility.
