X-Men: First Class sequel has a writer

Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class was a surprise hit, and a huge improvement over the last two X-Men films. Unfortunately, the film also grossed the least among the other films, and it wasn’t a sure thing if a sequel would happen. However, Super Hero Hype has learned that Fox is pushing for a sequel, and that Simon Kinberg will penning the script. It’s uncertain if Vaughn will return to direct, but it’s assumed the principal cast will return as they’re contractually obligated to do so.

This can been seen as both good and bad news. Kinberg did write some stinkers such as X-Men: The Last Stand and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but he also wrote Sherlock Holmes for WB. There’s no details on where the story will go, but it would be nice if Kinberg worked in more historical events into the sequel as the Cold War was in X-Men: First Class.
