Wrath of the Titans won’t be shot in 3D after all

What was the biggest complaint about WB’s remake of Clash of the Titans? The rushed 3D conversion during post-production. The film is one of the films that gave the post-production process its bad reputation. It was all thought Jonathan Liebesman’s sequel, Wrath of the Titans, would be shot with 3D cameras this time, but it seems that’s not the case.

In an interview with Collider, Liebesman revealed the sequel was intended to be shot with 3D cameras, but will instead be post-converted once again. Instead, Liebsman will be changing the aspect ratio of the film, and “shoot the choreography of the shots… instead of say 4 shots we’re gonna do 1.”  Sam Worthington (Perseus) got Liebsman in touch with Director James Cameron about using the proper aspect ratio for 3D. The director does admit this will be “completely different” than what happened with the previous film, and he believes this will help his vision for the film. “Look I would always prefer to shoot native, I just feel like film is the way to go with a Greek epic. Especially the way I wanna shoot it, which is more old school,” he said.

Obviously, this will put many off to the film, especially those unfortunate to have seen Clash in 3D.  But at least the conversion won’t be a last minute decision as with the previous film. This does make one wonder as to why the studio would approve of this decision after the huge backlash with the last film’s conversion, and other films that were post-converted.
