Wonder Woman series lives
Fans were disappointed recently when David E. Kelly’s reboot of Wonder Woman didn’t find a network, and was put on hold for the time being (here). However, Kelly told The Hollywood Reporter the show is still on, and is feeling optimistic about it happening. “I think the likelihood is we’ll see it next year. I’m being optimistic but I don’t think I’m being unrealistic,” he said. Kelly also goes on to explain the reason for the networks passed on the film was likely due to the project being “rolled out very late in the game”.
Why not bring Wonder Woman back in 2012? Christopher Nolan is ending his Batman trilogy with The Dark Knight Rises and Zack Snyder will be reviving Superman with The Man of Steel (tentative title). So, why not have Wonder Woman join her fellow Justice League members? However, many are doubting the character can these days. Sure, there was a show with Lynda Carter, but that was in the mid-70s, and times are different now. Even Kelly has had doubts about his ability to create a take on the character (here), but he does call his script for the show “smart”, and looks at Wonder Woman as a “real complex woman and not just a superhero.” But with all the rage of comic book properties these days, studios are willing to give any character a chance.
It all depends on the network that decides to pick up Kelly’s series. He’s said NBC, who’s already passed on the script, could be given a second chance, and the “possibility” of bringing the show to cable hasn’t been ruled out.
