Will Hellraiser remake go 3D?

That very question is looming over nearly every movie coming out of Hollywood today, and with Co-Director Patrick Lussier’s past experience (My Bloody Valentine 3D, Drive Angry 3D) with the 3D technology, it’s no surprise it has been considered for the upcoming Hellraiser remake. Bloody-Disgusting was able to chat with Lussier about some of his plans for the film, and revealed that a 3D release hasn’t been ruled out yet. “That’s not 100% decided. It’s something that we discussed. It’s certainly a film that would really lend itself to it, given the visual motif of how it works. But that hasn’t been locked down at this time. You know, right now we’re just focusing on the story and the characters, and the building of the world,” he said. Of course, Lussier seems to realize that Hellraiser is different from his past films.  ”Yeah. It’s a different kind of rollercoaster. ‘Drive Angry’ and ‘Valentine’ are very specific, but ‘Hellraiser’ is ultimately far more gothic in terms of that stuff,” he said.

Many fans aren’t keen on remaking this film, but Lussier does confirm the film will get an R rating, and won’t be watered down for teenagers. “[We made sure] it would be an ‘R’-rated movie, it would not be a teen movie. You know, it’s not ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, it’s called f*cking ‘Hellraiser’,” he said. That’s good as the source isn’t what you would call PG-13 material, and an R rating would be the only way the film would work. However, Lussier isn’t sure as to when the film will actually start moving forward, but it’s something the Weinstein Company wants to get done. “So I think it’s something they’re very excited to do, very excited to do sooner than later. But in terms of time, I can’t predict with that,” he said.
