Why no Jackass 3D Blu-ray?
In an interesting move, Paramount has made the 3D version of Jackass 3 only for DVD. Many fans of 3D Blu-ray were left scratching their heads, since there’s a lack of live-action 3D Blu-rays on store shelves.
“In an effort to bring the 3D home viewing experience of Jackass 3 to as wide an audience as possible, Paramount is releasing the film in anaglyph 3D on DVD with four pairs of 3D glasses in both the Blu-ray/DVD Combo package and in the Limited Edition Two-Disc DVD available on March 8. This ensures that all consumers with a DVD player will have the opportunity to experience the film in classic 3D at home,” so says the studio in a recent press release.
I think it’s smart, actually. The main demographic for the film is on DVD and the 18-35 year olds make up probably less than 1% of 3D TV and 3D Blu-ray sales. But I’ll admit it still is strange considering the lack of live-action 3D Blu-rays, which makes consumers a little tired of all of the animated options.
