Watchmen prequel comic coming

There was rumor a couple years ago that a follow-up to Watchmen could have been made, but those were shot down each time. However, it seems that a prequel is in the works, but in comic book form. DC Comics announced today they’ll be expanding the Watchmen universe with a series of prequel novels titled Before Watchmen will be coming this Summer. Obviously, the mere thought of tampering with the universe Alan Moore created is a controversial one amongst fans, but the with the likes of Brian Azzarello, Lee Bermejo, Amanda Conner, Darwyn Cooke, and many more names makes this sound promising.

However, the main concern that many will probably notice is the Moore’s original novel gave enough backstory on the characters that a prequel seems rather pointless other than money. The biggest question is whether or not a movie will follow?
