Transformers continue to rule the box office
After a record-breaking 4th of July weekend, Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon continues to dominate the box office, as it remains at number 1 for a second straight week, even with a new release in Horrible Bosses opening. With another $47 million to its total, Dark of the Moon has become the top-grossing film domestically at $261 million, over-taking the honor The Hangover Part II had at the title.
The film has yet to open in big international markets like China. It’s currently sitting over $600 million worldwide, with a very likely chance it’ll top a billion, making it the second film this year to do so (after Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides).
Horrible Bosses opened at number 2, laughing up a solid $28.1 million. It’s only comedic competition was Bad Teacher, which has crossed $70 million so far, coming in at number 5 with $9 million. Paramount’s other big hit, Super 8, made another $4.8 million, pushing its total to $119 million. Warner Bros.’ s Green Lantern probably has fizzed out coming in at number 9, with a little $3.1 million, barely pushing the film to $109 million.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II opens this weekend.
