The Wolverine might have a director

Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox has offered the vacant job of directing The Wolverine to director James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma). The job was Darren Aronofsky’s until at the 11th Hour he said, “what the hell am I doing?”, and bounced after receiving a slew of Oscar-nominations for his box office smash, Black Swan.

Fans always felt odd with Aronofsky at the helm, but with James Mangold, the fitting here seems appropriate. The studio is still keen on using Christopher McQuarrie’s screenplay and is still set to be a Japanese tale of our favorite clawed mutant. Mangold is coming off of critically panned and box office failure in Knight and Day, but his experience with big budgets and high profiled films should help him and bring audiences a far better film than X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
