The Three Stooges WON’T get a Jackass
Last Month, The Farrelly Brothers’ upcoming film in The Three Stooges found a new home at Twentieth Century Fox after MGM’s bankruptcy plan left the rights open (here). Bobby and Peter Farrelly stayed on as directors, but had to look for a completely new cast as Sean Penn and Jim Carrey recently dropped out (here), and it was uncertain if Benicio Del Toro was still attached. The directors have since been looking for actors to replace Carrey, Penn, and Del Toro, and it seems they may have found them.
The Wrap is reporting that Johnny Knoxville (Jackass, Men In Black 2), Andy Samberg (Saturday Night Live), and Shane Jacobson (Kenny, Cactus) are on the shortlist for the roles of Moe, Larry and Curly. This would be a different direction than the like of Carrey, Penn, or Del Toro, but maybe that’s what this film needs. After all, many of today’s youths probably haven’t been exposed to The Three Stooges, and bringing in an actor like Knoxville would help sell the film. Although, everyone knows that Knoxville isn’t exactly the light-hearted humor The Farrelly Bros. are looking to bring to the film.
Nothing has been confirmed just yet, but each actor’s agents have been approached. We should get some official casting soon as production is scheduled for March 14 this year.
Update: Peter Farrelly spoke with Entertainment Weekly dismissing the idea of casting Knoxville and Samberg. In fact, Farrelly says the film is “wide open to everybody.”
