The Roommate cleans up at the box-office

Girl power is strong with The Roommate as it defied a slew of bad reviews to take in $6.4 million on Friday alone. Look for our review on Monday.

“Enough moviegoers didn’t mind bunking with The Roommate, as the new college thriller topped the box office on Friday with $6.4 million, according to early estimates. That’s an attractive result for the Sony film, which cost only $8 million to produce. The Roommate, about a college freshman (Friday Night Lights’ Minka Kelly) who discovers that her dorm-mate (Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester) is the kind of deranged individual you’d commonly find in a PG-13 horror movie, is on pace for a weekend take of about $16 million.”
