The Little Mermaid gets a dark re-telling
While Joe Wright has put a halt on his planned live-action film of The Little Mermaid (here), Sony is moving forward with their own. Heat Vision is reporting that Sony has picked a dark re-telling of Hans Christian Andersens’ The Little Mermaid with Shana Feste (Country Strong) to write and direct the film. Unlike the Disney film, this will center on a “princess who, in order to save her ravaged kingdom, sets out on a dangerous journey to marry the prince of her rival kingdom, not knowing that a beautiful mermaid has fallen for the same man and has sacrificed everything to be with him”.
There’s no word if this will have any effect on Joe Wright’s film, but it shouldn’t seeing as how Relativity Media and Universal are both putting out Snow White projects around the same date.
