The Hobbit gets Orlando Bloom back and Gollum directs
Some The Hobbit news for Lord of the Rings fans today.
Andy Serkis, who will reprise his character of Gollum in the film, will also serve as a Second Unit Director for Peter Jackson. “I think I understand Peter’s sensibility and we have a common history of understanding Middle Earth,” Serkis said, “A lot of the crew from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ was returning to work on ‘The Hobbit.’ There is really a sense of Peter wanting people around him who totally understand the material and the work ethic.”
Also, it looks like The Hobbit will get Orlando Bloom back as Legolas. “Yeah, it’s looking like that. I’m really excited about going to see Pete [Jackson] again. It’s still a little up in the air, but the idea of working with Pete is fantastic. I can’t actually really talk too much about it, at this point. I just was given the script to piece through, so it’s quite exciting.”
That bit of news is curious to fans, because as Wiki puts it: “Though his father and his kingdom appear in The Hobbit, Legolas does not appear himself, as his character had yet not been created (though his name had). However, since he is over 139 years old, being older than Gimli, he must have been alive during the events of The Hobbit, which take place less than a century before the Quest of Mount Doom.”
Look for the films December 2012 and 2013.
