The Dark Knight Returns film in the works!

While fans’ dream of having Christopher Nolan direct a live-action adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns have been squashed with the upcoming reboot (here), it seems we may just get to see a film adaptation after all. Multiple sources have told Bleeding Cool that an animated film on Frank Miller’s classic novel is in the early stages of development. Unfortunately, it may be a while before we see it. An animated feature film on Year One is also in the works, and will be released before this film, and it’s unknown when this will get moving.

The Dark Knight Returns is regarded by many fans to be one of the greatest of the Batman novels. The story is about a “middle-aged Batman who comes out of retirement to fight crime, only to face opposition from the Gotham City police force and the United States government” (via Wikipedia).
