Sweet! There will be a Doctor Who film

It’s in the very early stages, but it appears Harry Potter director Peter Yates is teaming with the BBC to get a Doctor Who film off the ground.

“Harry Potter” director David Yates is teaming up with the BBC to turn its iconic sci-fi TV series “Doctor Who” into a bigscreen franchise.

Yates, who directed the last four Potter films, told Daily Variety that he is about to start work on developing a “Doctor Who” movie with Jane Tranter, BBC Worldwide’s L.A.-based exec VP of programming and production.

“We’re looking at writers now. We’re going to spend two to three years to get it right,” he said. “It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena.”

  1. All I can say is, remember what the last Hollywood Doctor Who turned out to be?

  2. And remember what the last six years of Doctor Who had been like. The most worrisome thing about it is the LA-based person on the BBC end, as one of the things I like about the Doctor is the non-Hollywood aspects of it. I am just going to feel somewhat weird about going to see it as I will apparently be well older than the Doctor is by the time it comes out.
