Star Trek 2 to warp into post-converted 3D

It was only a month ago that J.J. Abrams announced that he would be releasing Star Trek 2 in 3D (here), much to the dismay of fans. But many didn’t have a problem because they knew he would be smart and shoot in 3D rather than post-convert  the film. Sadly, no. Abrams confirmed to MTV that he’ll be shooting the film in 2D, then post-convert it in 3D. “We’re shooting on film, 2-D, and then we’ll do a good high-end conversion like the ‘Harry Potter’ movie and all that,” he said.

Fans will most likely be rolling their eyes to this, but Abrams is confident he’ll have enough time to get it right. “Luckily, with our release date now we have the months needed to do it right because if you rush it, it never looks good,” he said. That’s the biggest misconception about post-conversion 3D, it CAN be done right given enough time and money. But to shed some light on this, Abrams mentioned that he’s considering IMAX as well. “We were talking about [shooting in IMAX] and I would love to do it. IMAX is my favorite format; I’m a huge fan,” he said.
