Shane Black receives a Death Note
Warner Bros. will be creating a live-action adaptation of the popular manga, Death Note. Deadline Hollywood reports that Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) has been hired to direct the film, and oversee development of the script written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry. While many haven’t been enjoyed Hollywood’s previous attempts at adapting popular manga/anime, Death Note has been of favorite of Black’s, and that will hopefully give fans something worthwhile.
For those unfamiliar with Death Note, the story revolves around “a bright student who stumbles across a mystical notebook that has the power to kill any person whose name he writes in it”. The manga has sold more than 38 million copies worldwide, and has spawned an anime series, several live-action films, novels, and video games.
