Schwarzenegger is officially returning to Terminator!

It’s been rumored that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be returning to the Terminator franchise (here and here), but now it’s official. Deadline is reporting the former Governator is attached to star in Terminator 5 with Justin Lin set to direct as rumored (here). No screenwriter has been attached to pen the script, and the film is currently being shopped to studios. It shouldn’t be hard to find a studio to get the project moving, and word is that Sony, Universal, and Lionsgate are looking at the project.

Like WB’s situation with losing the rights to Superman, time is running out to get a new Terminator film off the ground, and it will have to be done by 2018. However, that’s more than enough time to get more films made, and possibly finish out the new trilogy that McG started with Terminator: Salvation. But the biggest question right now is, what role would Arnold play in the new film? He’s too old to play the Terminator again as seen in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, but they could always use CG to put his face on the robot as done in Terminator: Salvation. And the film did use the idea of modeling the T-800s after himself. Perhaps they could expand on that in this film.
