Rumor: Pacific Rim to be merge with Godzilla

Yes, that rumor has once again surfaced. It was first rumored in October that Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla reboot will be re-written into another project called Pacific Rim with Guillermo Del Toro at the helm (here). That was later denied by Del Toro himself, but part of the came true after all just recently (here). Now, sources are telling Blood-Disgusting that Pacific Rim is being re-written so the monster attacks take place outside of Japan due to the recent disasters in the Country. Also, Del Toro has been asked to merge the script with the upcoming Godzilla reboot.

While the first part sounds plausible as it was revealed in some early plot details (here) there would feature some Kaiju fights in Japan. However, the part where the studio wants to merge the script with Godzilla is where it gets odd. The studio hired Gareth Edwards (Monsters) to direct the film earlier this year (here), and merging the film with Pacific Rim would either see Edwards or Del Toro being dropped. Given Del Toro’s directing status, Edwards would be the one without a job. However, AICN is hearing this is all false, but Bloody-Disgusting is insisting their source is a reliable one. One of the two are lying obviously, but which? Although, Legendary Pictures is probably more concerned about getting Godzilla in theaters, and Pacific Rim is sounding more and more like a Godzilla film anyway. Hopefully, we can get some clariffication on this soon.
