Robocop remake may be getting a director

It was reported last month that MGM was once again moving forward with a remake of Paul Verhoeven’s Robocop (here), and now it seems that a director has begun negotiating with the studio. Deadline is reporting that Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) is in talks to direct the film. MGM is wanting to turn the remake into a major franchise, and want a director that can handle a “global field”. The film was originally going to be helmed by Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), but the project fell apart during MGM’s financial troubles, and Aronofsky will be busy with The Wolverine to make this film.
