Red Dawn remake looking to be released this year

With MGM’s bankruptcy now over and the studio is now gearing up to begin production on Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit (here), with Bond 23 back on track (here). But what about the other films that were delayed by MGM? There were several films that were shelved such as Joss Whedon’s Cabin in the Woods and Dan Bradley’s remake of the classic Red Dawn.

Nothing is known about the fate of Cabin in the Woods, but Movie Web is hearing that Red Dawn could be released later this year. The film was completed last year looking to be released in November, but the MGM’s financial problems caused it to be delayed indefinitely. Bradley attempted to have Twentieth Century Fox pick up the film to meet the date, but that never happened. We can expect to hear an official date soon.

The film stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Star Trek), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, The Losers), Isabel Lucas (Trasnformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Daybreakers). The plot is similar to the original, but features a group of students fighting off Chinese terrorists rather than Soviet.

  1. Still hoping for a Mr. Brooks sequel from MGM, Cabin will probably go DTV.

Which would be unfortunate, rather see that happen to the Red Dawn remake
