Producer talks Batman reboot
Fans have loved Christopher Nolan’s take on the Dark Knight, but his trilogy will be coming to an end next July with The Dark Knight Rises. For their post-Nolan Batman franchise, WB has decided to reboot it (here) rather than continue with a new director. The only question now is, what kind of Batman will be see afterwards?
Well, Hollywood Chicago interviewed Executive Producer Michael Uslan, who’s worked on every Batman film starting with Tim Burton’s 1989 film, about what interpretation of the Caped Crusader we’ll be seeing next. Sadly, he doesn’t give us much of anything about it:
“I just look to the comic books. For 72 years, they have given us such vastly different interpretations of The Batman character, from one extreme to the next, one as equally valid as another. Depending on when you were born, or what you were reading or seeing on TV when you were 12 years old, probably defines what your true Batman might be. It is something that will never end and will always be open to new and valid interpretations.”
The majority would agree that Nolan’s interpretation of Batman has been the greatest, and that’s why many don’t like the idea of starting over again. While Nolan’s Batman films have been great, his “realistic” take on the character does severely limit what you can do with the character, and what villains can be featured. The next franchise should take a less “realistic” approach, still keep the same dark tone of Nolan’s films. Nolan will still be attached as Producer of the next Batman film, and hopefully he keeps that series from going the same route as Batman and Robin.
Whatever WB has planned for Batman, it’ll have to wait until after The Dark Knight Rises is released on July 20th, 2012.

Psst. 1989, not 1986.
After The Dark Knight Rises (awful, awful title…) I think Batman needs to be left alone to age like a fine wine. Down the line, maybe in another decade, we can see what cinematic visionaries there are out there who can do Batman justice as Nolan has.

I agree. I love Batman (favorite superhero btw), but I WB to concentrate on getting other DC characters on the big screen. The Flash, JLA, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, and more Green Lantern.
Haha, my bad about the date (fixed).
