Percy Jackson & the Olympians sequel coming

While it was a modest hit for 20th Century Fox, it hasn’t stopped the studio from hiring Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (of 1408 fame) to adapt the second novel in Rick Riordan’s fantasy series, titled Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters. The second book follows “Percy and his friends who must journey into the Sea of Monsters to save their beloved camp. But first, Percy will discover a stunning new secret about his family — one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon’s son is an honor or simply a cruel joke”.

To me, the best news is the first film’s director Chris Columbus isn’t coming back, although he will remain as a producer. I felt the Harry Potter films only got better once he stopped directing, so hopefully this series follows suit. Fox is hoping that the book’s popularity will sustain the series, but The Lightning Theif did better overseas box office wise, than domestically (here in the States it made its $90 million budget back barely).
