Part 2 of The Deathly Hallows confirmed for 3D
Today may be April Fool’s Day, but this is no joke. We’ve heard that David Yates would be converting Part 2 of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows this time (here), but many were hoping it would be dropped as it was for Part I. But Collider interviewed Producers David Heyman and David Barron at Cinema Con, and confirm a 3D release for the final Potter film. “Yes it is,” Heyman said when asked about the film being converted to 3D. The Producers felt 3D would “compromise the film” the quality of the first half of The Deathly Hallows, but feel 3D will “adds something to the film and is really immersive as opposed to taking out”.
The main complaint about 3D is that it’s merely a gimmick, and Part I did have a few scenes that would have probably confirmed it. However, Director David Yates is apparently trying to use 3D from “a character point of view” and as a “storytelling aid”. Heyman also mentions the 3D will be used as a gimmick in the film. “It’s probably gonna be more subtle than on some films, we’re not gonna have tons of stuff flying out the screen, we’ll have some but not much. The depth will not necessarily be as great as some films. But it will make the film feel larger, be more immersive, and I think it will add to the stories as opposed to take away,” he said. As for whether or not a 3D re-release will happen for the previous entries, Heyman isn’t certain. “We haven’t’ talked about it but I won’t be surprised if that happens. I don’t know about theatrical but I suspect in 3D that will go on,” he said.
Part 2 of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows opens on July 15th.
