Orson Welles’ The Stranger coming to Blu-ray

Exciting news today from DVDTown, as Orson Welles’ The Stranger is coming to Blu-ray on February 15th, from Film Chest on the HD Cinema Classics label (distributed by Virgil Films & Entertainment). No word on full specs, although the disc will come with a separate DVD disc. The 1945 film was of noted for being the first film featuring real footage of concentration camps in cinema. But Orson always considered the film to be his weakest, despite fan and critic positive reactions.

The film starred Edward G. Robinson (Little Caesar, Soylent Green) and Orson himself, as a Nazi war criminal Franz Kindler, who has assumed a new identity following World War II in this film noir.

Sweet, news indeed, but where’s  The Magnificent Ambersons? Seems like his second directorial effort will never come to DVD, let alone Blu, but with The Stranger coming, fans can still only hope.
