Noomi Rapace locked for Prometheus
Ever since Noomi Rapace first met with Ridley Scott about starring in his upcoming Alien Prequel, now an original film titled Prometheus, fans have been loving the idea of her starring in the film. However, Twentieth Century Fox was nervous about casting the unknown actress, and wanted to go with a bigger name such as Charlize Theron (here). Fans can now rejoice as Deadline Hollywood reveals The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first to be cast in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.
Rapace will play the lead character, a scientist named Elizabeth Shaw. Angelina Jolie and Charlie Theron are also up for roles as “The Vickers“. However, that’s only three of five major roles in Ridley Scott’s upcoming film. But the studio wouldn’t comment on the other roles, but guarantee the roles “would be cast soon”. Details on the story are being guarded, but director Ridley Scott did mention that he and Damon Lindeloff (Lost, Star Trek 2) used Alien DNA as a basis for their story, and that “fans will recognize strands of Alien DNA” in the film. However, Scott mentions the ideas in the film will be “unique, large and provocative”.
One major thing many may be either upset or happy is the film is reportedly no longer a prequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien film. “While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place,” he Ridley Scott said. Nonetheless, Scott is happy to be returning to science fiction after Blade Runner many years ago.  ”I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart”, he said. Although, this may be for the best as many prequels haven’t worked out too well, and many aren’t keen on seeing the backstory of the alien or Space Jockey’s told.
Prometheus opens on March 9, 2012.
