Michael Shannon is General Zod

After plenty of fun speculation on who (here and here) would play General Zod in the Zack Snyder directed Superman film, Man of Steel, today Warner Bros. is confirming the rumor (here) that Michael Shannon is General Zod.

Here’s what WB and Legendary Pictures said about the casting:

““Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.” Snyder stated, “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”

Shannon was a powerhouse in Revolutionary Road and creepy as hell in My Brother, My Brother, What Have Ye Done? but is he General Zod material? Can he send chills down your spine like Terrance Stamp did in Superman II when he says: “Kneel before Zod!”

We will find out December 2012.

  1. Shannon 1st jumped on my radar after seeing the 2007 film Bug, blew me away. He’s also great in what I’ve seen of Boardwalk Empire.

Haven’t seen Revolutionary Road, but heard that he was in only one scene.

But managed to get a Supporting Actor Nomination, WHOA!

Figured Viggo or Daniel Day-Lewis was going to be Z0D.

Anyway, looking forward to this film, Shannon joins an already impressive Cast.

    Henry Cavill

    Amy Adams

    Diane Lane

    Kevin Costner
