Michael Fassbender talks X-men First Class sequel

Matthew Vaughn’s X-men: First Class was one of my favorite films of last year, but it’s hard to deny the film had a rushed script that did a poor job of handling certain issues. One of those issues was the relationship between Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender). Honestly, the script just didn’t flesh it out enough between the characters as it was hinted at in Bryan Singer’s films. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t see the two reunite once more in the sequel.

While talking with IFC, Fassbender hinted that we could see the two friends team up once more. “You know what’s interesting about Magneto and Professor X from the comic books as well, is there’s such a complexity to their relationship. It’s not just like clear-cut enemies; they’re best friends as well. In the comic books, even after they’ve had this sort of rift, Professor X asks Magneto to come back and look after the students at certain points. I think there’s always that complexity in their relationship. And we want to keep that alive as possible, because that’s I think a really interesting thing — the conflict there,” he said. Of course, a sequel hasn’t been green-lit just yet, and we don’t know which direction it will go should it happen. But seeing the two teaming up again to stop a villain would be nice to see. As long as it doesn’t feel like a repeat of X2.
