Matthew Vaughn probably not returning for Kick-Ass 2

Last September, Mark Millar finally admitted what everybody already figured out, that he would have to move forward with a film version of Kick-Ass 2 without Matthew Vaughn (here). Well, it seems that he’s going to have to put his money where his mouth is as Vaughn “doesn’t have any plans to direct it. He and I are not currently talking about writing it either,” Jane Goldman said to MTV. Let’s face it, we already figured he wouldn’t. And with Twentieth Century Fox wanting him to return for a follow-up to X-men: First Class, Vaughn will have to just produce the film.

However, there’s also some good news here. Goldman does mention that Vaughn “has been talking to who would be interested in writing and directing.” Sounds promising, but it’s a shame she couldn’t shed some light on who that person is. But Goldman does touch a very important issue, do we even need a Kick-Ass sequel? “My own feeling is that I love Mark Millar’s follow-up to the comic. I love the second volume of the comic, but whether the movie itself needs a sequel, I’m a little on the fence about that,” she said. It’s not needed, but I would certainly be up for watching Chloe Moretz kick some more ass. As long as the sequel is as good as the first, then why not make the film?
