Mark Strong signed on for Green Lantern 2
While Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern may prove to be a risk for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment Inc., the studios are already working on a sequel. There’s no word if Ryan Reynolds would be reprising his role as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern (although, you can assume he will) or if they’ll be bringing in another of the Green Lantern’s, but Mark Strong (Sinestro in the film) confirms that he’s signed up for another. “Yeah, yeah, yeah, very much so. I think that was always the deal. That, if it was successful, that there is such a vast amount of source material, that there’s plenty of storylines they can investigate,” he said in an interview on Myspace.
Now, the first thing many are probably going to assume is that Sinestro would be the villain in the sequel. While Strong doesn’t mention if we’ll see him turn evil in this film, but it could be touched upon in the sequel. “But, having said all of that, he has a kind of a presence which is undeniably strong, so you — what I’m trying to create is he goes to the dark side, not because he’s inherently evil, but because he is a kind of control freak, a bit dictatorial militaristic guy who wants to keep order, so, for him, all that happens is that just — you know, it’s like a revolving circle”, he said. However, Strong isn’t wanting to foreshadow it in Green Lantern. We’ve arleady heard the film will set-up the sequel (here), and Sinestro may seen like the most likely candidate for the next villain.
Of course, there’s always the chance the film bombs, and the sequel never sees the light of day.
