Magnolia picks up Von Trier’s Melancholia

Today, Magnolia Pictures has picked up distribution rights for Lars Von Trier’s next film, Melancholia, his apocalyptic tale that he promises “no more happy endings.” The film follows a planet that comes dangerously close to Earth, threatening life and chaos, which is a Von Trier specialty. This should be the moodiest, darkest, and bizarre End-of-the-World story around.

The film stars John Hurt, Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Alexander Skarsgard, Stellan Skarsgard, and Udo Kier. No release day planned yet, but as typical with Magnolia, look for a VOD and theatrical release so we can all enjoy Von Trier’s follow-up to his controversial Antichrist.
