Lost deleted scenes from Blue Velvet found; Blu-ray soon

David Lynch’s 1986 film Blue Velvet is widely considered not only his best film, but a masterpiece. Imagine seeing those deleted scenes he talked about in his audio commentary on the 2002 Special Edition DVD? In a recent interview on the radio (via Dugpa), Lynch confirms they found most of these deleted scenes.

His contract with the film’s producer Dino De Laurentiis was that he needed a two hour cut of the film ready for theaters, but Lynch in the commentary said he had a four-hour cut of the film. Obviously, whole scenes and subplots were eliminated for this two-hour cut. Prior to De Laurentiis’ death, he or other producers on the film never knew where the deleted scenes were. Lynch claims the footage won’t be re-edited into the film, but hopefully will be put back on the possible Blu-ray edition since “some of these scenes on their own would be beautiful to see again”.

No word on this possible Blu-ray edition yet.

“I’ll f*ck anything that moves!” Great line, great film, should make for an interesting experience with those deleted scenes. Hope Lynch has a commentary on them.
