Kristen Wiig may return for Bridesmaids 2 after all

After Bridesmaids became a hit at the box-office, everyone knew a sequel would come eventually. However, it was recently thought that Kristen Wiig didn’t want to make a sequel, and that Universal would move on without her (here). However, co-star Wendi McLendon-Covey mentions that Wiig was misquoted, and could pen the sequel, just not right now. “All she said was that she’s not working on it right this minute because someone gave her the opportunity to write and direct her own film so, duh, she’s going to do that first. So no. I think all she’s waiting for is for her and Annie [Mumulo] to come up with an idea that’s equally as good,” she said.

While that’s definitely good news for fans, but what does it mean for the film overall. It’s unknown just how fast Universal would want to move forward with a sequel, and Wiig’s schedule may not line-up with the studio’s. Would that mean Universal could still move on without her? Or will they wait? Either way, this looks to be just a way to cash in on the film’s success as many fans seem to agree a sequel doesn’t need to be made.
