Kenneth Branagh may not direct Thor 2
While Kenneth Branagh’s Thor has yet to even be released worldwide, we’ve already heard that Marvel is planning a sequel (here). But that’s apparently news to Director Kenneth Branagh. “You are telling me news,” he said to Movieline about news of a sequel. But would he direct the film if it happened? “Well, I don’t know. It’s is kind of news to me. Here’s what I would say to that: It’s that I’m thrilled they’re that confident. I shall wait for the audience to tell us whether there should be a second one, and then if that’s a nice conversation to be had between all of us, that’d be thrilling. But I’ve got too much Irish superstitious blood in me to assume that Thor 2 will happen. But if Marvel says so, then I guess it must be true,” he said.
Branagh does have a point about waiting to see how the film performs before planning, or even green-lighting a sequel, but that’s how Hollywood works today. But it’s safe to assume Thor will smash the box-office competition.. And if the film is as good as Marcella says it is (here), then a sequel should be no problem.
Meanwhile, Thor opens on May 6th.
