Karl Urban talks Dredd

The Sly Stallone Judge Dredd is a guilty pleasure love of mine, but that hasn’t stopped me from getting excited about Dredd, the new reboot to the comic book character, starring Karl Urban (Star Trek, Priest 3D). He recently talked with Empire about the film and how it honors the source material.

“We went to extraordinary lengths to honor the source material, and John Wagner himself came out to set and was really happy with what he saw. It’s inevitable that not everybody’s going to be happy, and there’s going to be elements that people will see that are missing or aren’t in the first, introductory movie, but I think that as long as you remain faithful to the essence of the source material you’re on the right track.

The film will pick up after the events of the Stallone film. Pete Travis directs, and Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey. No release date has been set, but I’m a betting man with an early 2012 release.
